Wildlife Hunting Seminar - 2008
NEW 2008 DATES POSTED

Just to give you a little history, back in 1997 I conducted my very first Wildlife Hunting Seminar on the old Star Ranch. Since the beginning, some 7 years later, we have instructed over 175 young hunters from the ages of 9 through 16 from all across this great Nation. Each year we have expanded and in 2003, there are 47 young hunters who have completed or are going to complete the seminar classes. In 2004, I decided to make some very important changes that enhanced our seminars to better serve our students and their parents. To start with, I broke down the student levels into 3 different categories: Beginner, Intermediate and Accelerated. By doing this, it allows my staff to spend more individual time with the students and do more hands on exercises and instruction. The new rate increase will allow me to introduce a wider variety of animals, and more importantly allows me to provide (1) instructor and (1) guide per 4 students (1 supervisor per 2 students, instead of 1 supervisor per 3 students as it's been in the past). In addition, a special engraved rifle will be given to the Best All Around Student in each of the Summer Seminars and a special trophy will include the student's name. The trophy will be displayed here at the Double C Ranch in a custom lighted case.

Beginner Class - students who have attended 0 to 1 year
Intermediate Class -
students who have attended 2 to 3 years
Accelerated Class -
students who have attended 4 to 5 years

Students will have to be at least 10 years of age at time of seminar
The cost to attend the 2008 Seminar will be $1,250 per student, however for those who send more than (1) family member, the cost will be $1,175 each. Each Beginner and Intermediate student will be allowed to harvest (1) animal each, and the Accelerated students will be allowed to harvest (2) animals each at no cost. Additional animals will be available, (see breakdown below), for a replacement fee of $500.

A Special Discount for those who want to pre-pay for any of the seminars and/or for additional animal replacement fees. The discounts are for payments received in full on/or before: Jul 1st - 10%; Aug 1st - 9%; Sep 1st - 8%; Oct 1st - 6%; Nov 1st - 4% and Dec 1st - 2%. This will afford me the opportunity to get started with the changes needed and insure an abundance of animals to be available for 2008.

Any student who has already attended at least one seminar can earn an additional $50 credit for any new students they refer to the seminars who reserve any of the following dates. The reservation must be confirmed with a 50% deposit, at which time the credit will be issued.

My plans for the future, if all goes well, are to build a fully equipped educational center. It will have classroom type seating, overhead projection TV with big screen, complete PA system, gun room for storing all weapons and ammo, gun cleaning and gun smith work stations and much more. It will also have a stage area with a podium so the guest speakers can deliver their educational speeches in detail.

If you ask the young hunters, they would prefer more hunting with a wider variety of animals to choose from, and the parents would prefer more education. These new changes will take care of both concerns. It is our repeat students and their referrals who have expanded our educational potential, and we want nothing other than to capitalize on this opportunity.

To reserve your dates, call our office and make sure the time slot you have chosen is still available. The next step will be to send a 50% deposit with some additional information about your son or daughter. We look forward to helping your youth better understand the outdoors and enhancing his or her knowledge about South Texas and the wildlife species that live there.

Qualified instructors will be assisting with the seminars. They will consist of Wildlife and Range Specialists, Rifle and Shotgun experts, Professional Hunting & Fishing Guides, Undergraduate Students and Teachers.
